SWEET SCOOP: A POEM ABOUT ICE CREAM
Project Synergy writer, editor, and columnist Marian Hawit Rosmo shares a sweet poem inspired by her love of ice cream. Indulge in the poem below.
Those who love ice cream know
The comfort of that first lick
Or bite, if you’re weird
Creamy and cool
I’ve been mocked for my ice cream of choice
Mint chocolate chip
Tastes like toothpaste, some say
Can’t argue with fools
Set out to write an article
Made a poll to show the results
I figure a poem is better
Moves faster
Sounds romantic-er
Asked people’s favorite
I got
Hazelnut
Raspberry
Cookies and cream
Cookie dough
Salted caramel and
Pistachio
I figure a sweet scoop of ice cream is
Or should be
A collective human experience
Just like
A bad breakup
A stain on your white T-shirt
A warm summer day
Or wisdom teeth removal
A little bit of sweetness to mend the sour
Then I think—
Isn’t ice cream already the
Common denominator?
In a bad breakup
A stain on your white T-shirt
A warm summer day
And wisdom teeth removal
Eat it in a cone
What does that say about you?
Eat it in a cup
Now what does that say about you?
Reminds me of being a kid
Neapolitan ice cream, please
Pink and brown and white
Why is it called that anyway?
